President Trump’s claim that former President Obama wiretapped him is pretty well debunked at this point. But a top Republican may have just admitted that someone in the White House is under surveillance for treason.
The admission came this Sunday on the show Fox News Sunday. Republican Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes sat down with Chris Wallace to discuss a number of issues regarding Russia.
The discussion soon turned to President Trump’s ridiculous claim that Obama had Trump Tower wiretapped. Nunes told Wallace that no evidence exists that this ever happened.
“Do we think there was any surveillance of people in Trump World, or do we think that there was surveillance of other people like Ambassador Kislyak and that these folks who were talking to them were incidentally swept up in the conversations, in the intercepts?” Wallace asked.
“Well, if you look at the folks that are working at the White House today, that are involved in the Trump administration, I don’t think there’s any but one there that is under any type of investigation or surveillance activities at all,” Nunes answered.
This is a stunning admission by Nunes. There is active surveillance of someone in the White House. Wallace didn’t even seem to realize what Nunes was saying at the time.
It’s possible that Nunes misspoke, and that he was talking about the investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. Trump fired Flynn after leaks about Flynn’s ties to the Russian Ambassador to the US.
on the other hand, Nunes may have just admitted to an ongoing investigation into someone on the Trump staff. He didn’t elaborate though on any of the details of the possible investigation.
Nunes also told Wallace that there’s no evidence that Obama wiretapped Trump during the election. He told Wallace, “No, there was no FISA warrant that I’m aware of to tap Trump Tower.”
Nunes did indicate though that the committee will investigate the leaks that lead to Flynn’s dismissal. The Republicans think these leaks are the real crime.
Nunes told Wallace, “We know a law has been broken and we need to get to the bottom of it.” This is bad news for the brave whistleblowers in the intelligence community.
At the same time, Nunes refused to admit that Trump had any ties with the Russian government. He said there was no evidence of collusion between the Trump administration and the Russian government.
The Republicans on the House Intelligence committee don’t seem to care much about Trump’s Russian ties. They’re more concerned about stopping whistleblowers from spilling more of Trump’s secrets.
That’s bad news for the public. If it wasn’t for these informants, we’d still be in the dark about Michael Flynn’s corruption.
It’s also bad news for the intelligence community. Trump will likely punish anyone who betrays him to the fullest extent of the law.
In fact, this Trump team member under surveillance could be one of the whistleblowers. Trump could have instructed the FBI to monitor his own staff to close down the leaks.
