President Trump is sending his golden boy Jared Kushner back to the Middle East. So let’s just hope that he doesn’t start World War III.
Trump wants to restart the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. So he’s sending three diplomats to the region to try and restart the negotiations.
This group is once again led by Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt and deputy national security adviser Dina Powell will also join the team.
According to the White House, this trip will “focus on the path to substantive Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, combatting extremism, the situation in Gaza, including how to ease the humanitarian crisis there.”
We still don’t have any details about the trip, though, or how Kushner plans to overcome the obstacles to peace. Kushner doesn’t have any diplomatic experience either, so he’s ill-suited for the job.
Let’s hope that the team has more luck this time, however. Because the last time Kushner was in the Middle East, things didn’t go so well.
In fact, Kushner only managed to infuriate Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas. The two had a terse talk about the Israeli demands that the Palestinian Authority stop payments to terrorists and their families.
So Kushner almost derailed the talks right from the start. His complete failure almost caused Donald Trump to give up on peace to the Middle East.
But he decided to send his favorite son-in-law back to the region to try again. Hopefully, Kushner will avoid almost starting another war in the Middle East this time.
According to White House officials, “President Trump has previously noted that achieving an enduring Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement will be difficult but he remains optimistic that peace is possible.”
The officials also said that the Trump diplomatic team will try to avoid angering either party. That would certainly be a nice change of pace!
“To enhance the chances for peace, all parties need to engage in creating an environment conducive to peace-making while affording the negotiators and facilitators the time and space they need to reach a deal,” said the official.
POLL: Is Trump trying to start WW3?
Trump thinks he can do what no other president has been able to achieve thus far. But the truth is, the Trump administration is the least qualified to make peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
That’s because Trump’s attacked Muslims since the beginning of his campaign. He even issued a Muslim travel ban to try to keep Muslims out of the U.S.
And Trump has said over and over again that he stands with Israel against its enemies. So why would the Palestinians trust him to deliver a fair deal?
And in the meantime, Trump keeps bombing and killing civilians in Syria. The only thing that Trump is bringing to the region is more violence and war.
The inexperienced Kushner doesn’t have any business leading this important effort, though. Share this story on Facebook if you agree that Trump needs to let someone else handle diplomacy in the Middle East.
