One senator believes that Donald Trump is putting the U.S. “on the path to World War III.” The most shocking thing about it is that the senator isn’t a Democrat—he’s the Republican from Tennessee.
Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) spoke out against the president recently, saying the Trump acts as though he’s still on “a reality show…like he’s doing ‘The Apprentice’ or something.”
Corker is possibly reacting to an attack launched against him by Donald Trump over the weekend. In a series of tweets, Trump brought Corker to national attention—and not in a good way.
“Senator Bob Corker ‘begged’ me to endorse him for re-election in Tennessee. I said ‘NO’ and he dropped out (said he could not win without…my endorsement),” Trump tweeted.
“He also wanted to be Secretary of State, I said ‘NO THANKS.’ He is also largely responsible for the horrendous Iran Deal!”
“I would fully expect Corker to be a negative voice and stand in the way of our great agenda. Didn’t have the guts to run!” Trump tweeted.
“It’s a shame the White House has become an adult day care center. Someone obviously missed their shift this morning,” Corker answered in a tweet of his own.
Corker also disputes Trump’s version of events. He says that Trump asked him to run for reelection, and promised to offer an endorsement if he did.
“He concerns me,” Corker told The New York Times, adding, “He would have to concern anyone who cares about our nation.”
“I know for a fact that every single day at the White House, it’s a situation of trying to contain him,” Corker said of Trump in his Times interview.
Corker even addressed Trump’s lies in the interview, saying “I don’t know why the president tweets out things that are not true…You know he does it, everyone knows he does it, but he does.”
It’s one of the many mysteries surrounding the Trump administration, like the mystery of how this man ended up in the Oval Office in the first place.
Donald Trump has frequently turned against his own party members and former allies in recent months. He has lambasted the Senate and Senate leadership through Twitter on numerous occasions.
Trump expressed rage at the Senate for being unable to pass his health care bill, and for failing to outright repeal the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare. Republicans, including Trump, have loudly screamed that they want to repeal this legislation, but millions of Americans continue to reap its benefits.
Previously, Trump has made ugly remarks about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and several other members of the GOP.
If Trump continues to alienate his own party, he’ll have no support for health care, tax reform, border walls or any of the other stuff he always says he wants to do.
But when it comes to starting a war, Trump doesn’t need the other Republicans to agree with him, anyway.
