American Oversight is suing the Department of Justice for records that may clarify just what’s going on with Donald Trump and Russia. This is an effort to get to the bottom of the nature of the President’s association with Russia.
“As congressional inquiries seem to be getting us nowhere, American Oversight is suing the government for information,” Austin Evers, executive director for the group, said in a statement.
The suit asks for applications and court orders that may shed more light on the surveillance of Trump Tower, if such documents exist.
American Oversight has also filed a second lawsuit to obtain information about Reince Priebus, the White House chief of staff. They also want to obtain the vetting forms for current Attorney General Jeff Sessions to learn more about his possible communication with foreign government officials.
The lawsuit comes several weeks after Donald Trump made the completely unproven claims that former President Obama ordered Trump Tower to be wiretapped during the 2016 election. To date, no proof of this activity exists.
In a statement last month, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Cali) said that information was collected on Donald Trump only incidentally as part of a different investigation.
In other words, there’s only one way that Donald Trump could be captured in wiretap recordings: because he was speaking to Russia. Trump Tower was not tapped, and no one anywhere has been able to prove that it was.
Some Russian officials, however, are being actively monitored by U.S. intelligence. If Trump, or his staff, communicated with people who are under surveillance then Trump would naturally show up on those recordings.
But it’s highly likely that anyone in the Trump administration wants to admit to that fact. Instead, they have made exaggerated and unfounded claims about the U.S. government.
POLL: Did Trump collude with Russia?
More and more watchdog groups are determined to get to the bottom of Russiagate. It seems increasingly obvious that investigation will uncover collusion between Trump and Russia.
What do you think? Did Trump work with Russia to steal the Oval Office? Tell the world what you think in the poll below.
Donald Trump gave an interview last Sunday and doubled-down on his wiretapping claims. “I don’t regret anything,” he told the Financial Times of his March tweet.
Now, American Oversight is calling for actual records that will, at last, prove or disprove the President’s wild claims. Despite what his staff may be saying now, Trump was quite clear in his March 4th tweet that said, “Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower.”
FBI Director James Comey says the Federal Bureau of Investigation has “no information” on this alleged wiretapping of Trump Tower. That’s because it quite simply did not happen.
This lawsuit once again brings attention to Trump’s baseless claims and his possible paranoid delusions, or downright lies. We must continue to support watchdog groups like this in their pursuit of the truth.
Democracy only works if the public is informed. Unfortunately, lawsuits are the only way to get the real truth from this lying administration.
